Wilson and Hickey were part of the respective four-person ‘Gangurrus’ women’s and men’s teams that swept past formidable opposition to claim double honours at the popular tournament, cementing Australia’s status as a powerhouse nation in the sport.  Australia’s double triumph was a repeat of our feat in the 2019 tournament.

HAVING just returned home from their first international performance at the renowned SXSW (South by Southwest) festival in the USA, rising Boorloo / Perth-based hip-hop stars FLEWNT and his 11-year-old son INKABEE are showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Next up is the Sydney Opera House.

LEILANI MITCHELL is living the dream on and off the court after having secured her fourth WNBL championship.

The mother of two is one of three mothers in the Southside Flyers team – joining the great Lauren Jackson, and Carley Ernst – which secured the 2023-24 WNBL championship after defeating Perth Lynx 115-81 to win the three-game series 2-1.

Mitchell proved her quality in the series, scoring 14 points with three triples in game three to win her fourth title.

This also is the franchise’s fifth championship, and second since the rebrand from the Dandenong Rangers.

The Flyers were led by the legendary Jackson who may have been the headline act but the Flyers could very well lay claim to being the most decorated WNBL championship…

LEGAL experts have blamed the latest riot at the Northern Territory’s notorious Don Dale youth detention centre on failing standards and inadequate care.

TRADITIONAL owners have cautiously welcomed the appointment of Rio Tinto to manage the rehabilitation of the Ranger uranium mine in Kakadu.

Energy Resources Australia (ERA), which operated Ranger and is 86.3 per cent owned by Rio Tinto, announced a new management services agreement for the rehabilitation project in a statement to the Australian Stock Exchange last Wednesday.

In March, ERA announced it had applied for a renewal of the Jabiluka mineral lease within Kakadu, but Mirarr Traditional Owners are opposed to the move, saying they have concerns about the financial position of the company.

“I was in the studio, actually working on a completely different song,” he told the Koori Mail.

“It just started off as a conversation with me and my producer about being a youngfulla and having the feeling of possibly ending up in jail. How it wasn’t a normal thing for a kid to be thinking about.”
